Sara Kern Cajamarca Memorial Scholarship Fund

Sara Kern Cajamarca Memorial Scholarship Acorn FundSara Elizabeth Kern Cajamarca, born in 1975, was raised in Beloit, Wisconsin by her loving parents, Richard and Donna Kern.

She graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in June of 1993 and then went on to study education and Spanish at the University of Minnesota. Her studies included a semester in Venezuela and work towards a master’s degree in English as a second language. In 1998 she married her husband, Tobias Cajamarca, and began working as an ESL teacher in Minnesota. Sara found great pleasure in staying very active and in discovering new things.

She enjoyed learning about other cultures and languages and made volunteering in her community and serving others a priority. She was a very kind and generous person with a warm smile and fun spirit who cherished her relationships with family and friends.

Sara was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2000 and spent the following two years battling this cancer with unwavering strength and a positive attitude; sadly, passing away in July of 2002.

This scholarship was created to remember the beautiful and thoughtful person that Sara was by giving back to a community she loved in hopes of continuing to help others as she joyfully did in her 27 years.
